Septic systems are typically designed to handle the waste from only one building or home. They different from municipal systems, which generally take waste from various locations and send it to a central location for treatment. The job of a septic system is to transform waste water into a substance that is appropriate to reenter the surrounding environment. Septic contractors are qualified to work with such systems and ensure that they function properly on a regular basis.

The main pipe in systems of this kind delivers waste to underground tanks. The latter are usually made from plastic, concrete, or fiberglass. The receiving tank takes in the waste, which is then divided into a thin sediment layer that floats on the surface, and a deep sludge layer, found at the tank's base. Between these two layers, untreated water coagulates.

The tank's outlet pipe leads to a device called a distribution box. Waste is delivered from the building or home to the tank through this box. The latter also features additional outlets, which are designed to transport the water to a leaching field.

The leaching field is a large area of trenches located below ground level. After this, the water is treated by various methods and reentered into the surrounding environment. The treatment techniques vary from one region of the country to the next, depending on that particular state's laws.

Septic contractors perform a variety of services on the aforementioned systems. For example, some specialize in tank inspection, and visit various properties in order to ensure that the system is functioning appropriately and no untreated waste is spilling into the surrounding ground. Other contractors focus on the installation or removal of such tanks.

In some instances, if new legislation is passed, an individual must relinquish a septic tank and hook up to a municipal water system. This is another example of when the services of a professional are required. The only person qualified to uninstall such a system is a licensed contractor, as he or she can ensure that the property is appropriately annexed to the municipal sewer line.

Occasionally, contractors of this type are called upon to snake drains. This is because in order to have a properly functioning system, drains and pipes must be free of grease and the buildup of other debris. Such professionals also make sure that each system is compliant with OSHA regulations and other rules concerning waste water.

It is always unwise to try to repair a septic system without professional assistance. This is due to the fact that a licensed contractor understands how to detect ground lines that indicate the presence of pipes, wires, and underground cables. Individuals who are untrained in such areas may cause injury or fire by digging in a section of ground where such items are buried.

Ultimately, when advice or repairs are needed, one should always seek the services of septic contractors. This is because such professionals are the only individuals qualified to properly handle such matters. Any person who has concerns about the condition or safety of his or her waste water system should get in touch with a professional in a timely manner.
