In the recent years, most consumers have preferred pest control methods that are safer and more effective. At the same time, most people look to conserve the environment and would not want to use methods that have adverse environmental effects. In consideration of pest control Queens residents have a number of options that can prove to be very beneficial and effective. The choice of technique depends on ones preference and the type of pest to be controlled.

There is the use of pheromone traps that is effective for a number of pests. A majority of inspects usually produce pheromones which are powerful smells. It is these that they use for luring their male counterparts. Several of the scents have been duplicated and used to make special traps used for luring the insects being targeted.

One reason why this particular technique may end up not being be very efficient because it is used solely for attraction of male insects. For those that use it, it serves as an early warning that the particular pest will be moving into the particular area in numbers. Once one sets the trap and realizes that there is an insect that is trapped, they should realize that it is time to launch control strategies. Examples of pests controlled with this technique are army-worms, cabbage loopers and cutworms.

Insecticidal soap can be used for controlling mites, aphids, white-flies and a host of other insects that are soft bodied. The soap has fatty acids that are unsaturated. They are derived from animal fats and serve to dissolve skin of insects. The soaps are commercially formulated and specifically sold for control of insects.

There should not be confusion between these soaps and herbicidal soaps. Herbicidal soaps are meant for killing vegetation and not pests. There are also normal household soaps that serve as washing detergents. For insecticidal soaps to be very effective, one should ensure they are in contact with the pest while they are still liquid. They will not have any effect on pests once they dry up.

Pests can be denied oxygen using oil sprays. For the sprays to be effective, they must hit the pests directly. Eggs of pets are killed using dormant oils. The oils are also used to kill disease spores found on bare branches of trees. In order to treat growing plants, light-weight and refined oils are made use of. In comparison with dormant oils, lighter oils tend to evaporate much faster. They therefore do not damage plants.

Care should be taken not to spray plants that suffer from lack of moisture. In addition, spraying should not be done during very hot weather. It is advisable that the spray is tested with a few of the leaves prior to spraying the whole plant. After that, one should wait for about 48 hours to ensure leaf spotting or even loss of color does not take place.

When considering pest control Queens residents should also think of hygiene as one of the best control methods. Whenever homes and yards are kept clean, pests would have neither food nor where to breed. This will in turn mean the number of pests will be controlled a great deal. Some of the hygiene practices include making sure the toilets are clean, cleaning up after meals and keeping food covered at all times.
