Concrete sidewalk repair becomes necessary when a path is filled with potholes and it is no longer comfortable to use. The surface of a pavement may rumble due to effects of tree roots penetrating underneath it. This will initially be noted as cracks and as the roots widen, wide faults will appear. Within a short period, the image of the footpath will have deteriorated and it will also not be safe to walk on such a path.

A footpath will incur a lot of destruction if a tractor and other heavy machinery applied in road construction moves over it. This is due to the reason that the slabs applied in its construction are only meant to support human weight and not that of heavy objects. Plumbers will cut through a pavement if they wish to restore a water system by a way of trenching. After they finish their work, there is need to repair the path so that it assumes the initial continuity.

The contractor is expected to set a diversion before he closes the path to be repaired. This will allow occupants of the surrounding buildings carryout their daily duties without obstructions. It will not be ideal to close a path without setting an alternative one as it will inconvenience passersby.

Demarcation materials applied by the contractor should be well visible and easy to understand by all. This will eliminate confusion thus no cases of traffic jams or people getting lost. Demarcation will also make it possible to isolate the area where construction is taking place. In a situation whereby the work is being carried along a road, it will be important to notify motorists of it through posting the relevant signs.

Each and every contractor must stick to the requirements stated in the international construction codes handout. It is against the law for anyone to use materials that do not meet the strength described in this handbook. These restrictions have been set to ensure that all structures put in place are durable and safe for human use.

Basically, concrete is composed of cement, water, coarse and fine aggregates. All these elements must be mixed in the proper ratio to ensure that the resulting structure hardens well to give a rigid as well as a durable product. The amount of each of these components will affect the properties of the hardened concrete.

The initial design used in the construction of the sidewalk is what will guide the contractor in carrying out the restoration duty. In case it is not available, a redesign should be done at least for the faulty part. If the client wish amendments be done so that the renewed structure assumes a new image, then he must pass his views to the designer.

It is important that the contractor devices ways of preventing destruction from happening again once he is through with concrete sidewalk repair. In this way, the client will not have to spend on frequent repairs. One of these actions includes excavating all roots growing towards the footpath.
