Your new job in communication consulting Austin may necessitate a house move. A city the size of the state capital of Texas, not to mention a cultural and economic center has a lot to offer. The eleventh-largest city in America is a very desirable place to live.

The residential areas surrounding Zilker Metropolitan Park are convenient for Highway 1 and for the Colorado River. The 350-acre park bears the name of the man who signed over the title to the land in 1917, Andrew Jackson Zilker. Among the attractions in the park are the Zilker polo field, Umlauf Sculpture Garden and a nature center.

Just beside Lady Bird Lake is Auditorium Shores another popular public park. Every year, it holds an annual festival called South by Southwest (SXSW), a ten-day conference incorporating film and music festivals. Auditorium Shores is a haven for dog lovers, with a nearby park where peoples' companions can run free while their owners enjoy a drink and a spectacular view of the Austin skyline.

Residences in Auditorium Shores approach Highway 1 through Barton Springs Road. South of the river, the area connects with the northern half of the city via three bridges on First Street, Lamar Boulevard and Congress Avenue. Pedestrians are free to use the Lady Bird Trail footbridge free of traffic.

North of the river and west of Interstate Highway 35 (Interregional Highway 290) is also a pleasant residential area. This is close to the Texas State Capitol and there is a nearby middle school. South of the Colorado River and west of State Highway 183 lie Pleasant Valley, the Riverside Golf Course and Montopolis Park.

There are less densely populated areas, for instance, near where the river forms a ninety degree bend and runs north and south. One such are is Tarrytown, near the MoPac Expressway. In this neighborhood, residents enjoy the benefits of Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve and an elementary school. MoPac Expressway, also referred to as Loop 1, is a freeway named after the Missouri Pacific Railroad.

Even less densely packed than Tarrytown is Georgetown, a half hour's drive and 30 miles north of Austin via I-35. Not very convenient for the river, it has the attraction of having half the population density of the big city, 1,200 per square mile compared to 2,800. Georgetown has been featured in a number of movies, including "Varsity Blues, " "Where the Heart Is, " and, released in 1996 and starring John Travolta, "Michael." Georgetown has the distinction of being home to no fewer than five endangered species, including songbirds and invertebrate species.

With a median age of local residents being 30, the capital of Texas is a vibrant place for someone in communication consulting Austin to live. Close to the city center are good transport links and the beauty of the Colorado River. Not far away, the suburbs offer a more quiet way of life.
