If you wish to convert to Judaism, you will be required to follow certain steps. It is not an instant process but a lengthy one, intended at self awareness. Conversion affects your entire life. It is for this reason that you will be required to study Jewish beliefs, traditions and culture. The process is completed under the guidance of a rabbi.

You will begin by researching into the customs, history and laws of the Jews. You will know the kind of life you are signing into and why you want to take that step. It is important to note that the decision you make will affect every part of your life. You are expected to teach the same belief to your children.

Your research will introduce you to the 13 principles of Jewish life and the other 613 commandments. They are the foundations of Judaism. Family members should be informed about the decision you are making. Informing your loved ones allows them to come to terms with your aspirations and desires. They begin to find comfort in your choices.

Those converting for the sake of marriage must inform their spouses. This is where you will discuss the best denomination for you. There is no guarantee that all rabbis will allow you to convert because of such a simple reason. You should be prepared for such a response as Im a rabbi, but I must be more convinced.

Sincerity of heart and genuine desire are demanded from anyone who wants to convert to Judaism. It is a spiritual transformation and must not be informed by any other desire. There are different denominations like Orthodox, Reform and Conservatives which you may join. Their levels of devotion distinguish them.

You will inform a Rabbi once you have made the final decision. He will try to convince you otherwise to measure your conviction. It is expected that you will resist such a move since you are determined. This opens the door for you to complete the process of conversion. It takes time to go through these stages unlike other religions.

Those who wish to convert to Judaism have to attend classes for almost a year. Some organizations offer night classes. You will be watched to ensure that you adhere to the Jewish way of life. The subjects covered in class revolve around culture, tradition and beliefs of the Jews. Instructions are mostly offered in Hebrew.

There is a court of three authorities to judge your understanding of Halacha at the end of your classes. This is done through a test that is mandatory for all intending to be converted. This is followed by the emersion ceremony where your entire body will be dipped in Mikveh. All males must shed blood through circumcision for their conversion to be full.

Children do not convert to Judaism automatically because their parents have converted. Strict orders even demand that a mother who is pregnant cannot pass this spirituality at birth. Such a child must take independent classes at teenage. Children born after conversion are not required to undergo this ritual.
