Action: The Key To Goal Achievement

Miyamoto Musashi--arguably the greatest swordsman in the history of Japan--once wrote, "Do not waste time idling or thinking after you have set your goals."

I read that quote in the Book of Five Rings and when I first saw it, it really hit home with me because there are a ton of people who waste a ridiculous amount of time "idling after setting their goals."

That passage really hits home with me because you and I both know that far too many people waste time "idling after setting their goals." Not cool.

Maybe it's me, but it seems like most of the material on goal achievement primarily focuses other aspects of goal achievement while overlooking the crucial aspect of "action."

Writing down your goals.

Writing down your goals. Check.

Visualizing your goals. Check.

Of course setting goals, writing down your goals, and visualizing your goals are extremely important aspects of goal achievement, but it really boils down to taking action on your goals.

The thing to be mindful of is that, for most people, after the setting, writing, and visualizing, they don't take enough of the right actions.

I recently saw a poster with the following phrase on it: "Action. It's always your next move."

An article I wrote called "What comes first, action or motivation?", explains how action gives birth to motivation. Action is also the key to building momentum. Next comes the sense of increased self-efficacy. Then...achievement.

In an article I wrote called "What comes first, action or motivation?", I explain that action gives birth to motivation. Not the other way around. With the right action comes increasing momentum. Next comes a heightened level of self-efficacy. Finally...achievement.

Is there a goal you've been meaning to get to? If so, get on it. Develop an ACTION plan in writing. Then get started. Now. Find the very next next thing that you can do and do it. Then you'll be on the path to achieve your goals.

Have you already been working on a particular goal? Awesome. Keep it going. And ask yourself, "Is now a good time to start developing an action plan for my next goal?"

Whether it's your past, current, or future goals, it's time for some action!

Take the right action and eventually, success will be yours.

Million-Dollar Question: How soon are you going to take action?
